The decision
Team summary
What is the difference between Freshdesk and Zendesk?
Both support customer-service ticketing, knowledge, automation and connected tools. Freshdesk’s paid email-support plans and separately priced Freshdesk Omni family should be compared with Zendesk Support and Zendesk Suite at the channel and routing scope you actually need. A Zendesk vs Freshdesk decision should use the same support workload on both sides.
In the same released Help Desk Grid, Zendesk has the higher overall G2 Score (95 versus 84). Freshdesk has higher normalized ease-of-use (90% versus 87%), setup (88% versus 83%) and administration (89% versus 84%) ratings; both have 88% for meeting requirements. These results describe the category products, not every app sold by either vendor.
Should you pilot Freshdesk first?
Freshdesk is worth piloting first when email ticketing, a knowledge base and clear agent workflows define the initial rollout. Its standalone plans cover that foundation, while Omni is the separately priced path for broader channels. Freshdesk has the higher ease-of-use and setup ratings in the checked Help Desk Grid; prove the fit using your queue.
Should you pilot Zendesk first?
Zendesk is worth piloting first when the rollout needs Suite’s messaging, live chat, telephony and omnichannel routing, or customer context across the Zendesk tools you would buy. Professional adds skills-based routing. Its higher overall Grid score supports the shortlist, but does not establish better fit for every team.
Could an overlap period be useful?
Yes, a temporary overlap can support migration or separate service teams. It also creates duplicate-intake and reporting risks. Keep one owner for customer identity, ticket status and inbound routing until a reconciled transfer and cutover are complete.
Decision factors
What should you decide before comparing prices?
Define the channels, full and limited agent roles, ticket volume, escalation path and reporting requirements. Ask both vendors to price that scope in the same currency and billing commitment; matching entry labels do not establish matching rights.
Reviewer ratings
Category evidence
Which G2 categories compare the same job?
Help Desk is the core customer-service comparison. ITSM and Contact Center concern distinct, separately licensed products. All tables use the latest released Fall 2026 Overall Global reports, with category-specific review counts.
Reviewer ratings
What do the shared-category ratings tell you?
Freshdesk is higher on ease of use in Help Desk, while both core products have an 88% requirements rating. Freshservice is higher than Zendesk Employee Service on both displayed ITSM measures. Freshcaller is higher on contact-center ease of use, with requirements tied. These are separate product comparisons, not one vendor-wide score.
| Job | Ease of use · Freshdesk/Freshworks / Zendesk | Meets requirements · Freshdesk/Freshworks / Zendesk | What to test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Help Desk | 90% / 87% | 88% / 88% | New-agent triage, response and administration |
| IT service management | 93% / 87% | 90% / 88% | Catalog, approvals, assets and change handoffs |
| Contact center | 88% / 84% | 86% / 86% | Peak queues, transfers and ticket/customer matching |
Freshdesk has higher ease and setup ratings in the core Help Desk snapshot; Zendesk has the higher combined G2 Score. Adjacent-category results describe Freshservice, Zendesk Employee Service, Freshcaller and Zendesk Contact Center, rather than the core helpdesks.
Products and bundles
Core apps and services
Which core apps and services will your team use?
Both cover ticketing, automation, reporting, customer context and integrations. Freshdesk adds broader channels through the Omni family; Zendesk packages messaging, live chat, telephony and knowledge in Suite. Employee-service and specialized contact-center products are separate purchases, as the additional-services table shows.
For internal support, Freshservice includes IT asset-management capabilities, while Zendesk Employee Service supports IT, HR and other employee-facing teams. Compare their separately licensed catalog, asset and service scope; neither is automatically part of the customer-support purchase.
| Work | Freshdesk | Zendesk | What to compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ticketing and shared inbox | Freshdesk | Zendesk Support | Compare ticketing, shared inboxes and customer context. Paid entry plans cover email support; knowledge and channel rights differ. |

| Agent and administrator assistance | Freddy AI Copilot; Freddy AI Insights | Zendesk Copilot; Admin Copilot | Freddy Copilot and Insights serve different roles. Zendesk agent Copilot and Admin Copilot also have distinct rights, assistance features and usage limits. |
Standalone alternatives
When could an outside tool justify another purchase?
Consider a separate product when a required workflow exceeds the capabilities of the plan you would buy. Weigh the added functionality against another license, setup, data ownership and connection work.
Does your support queue need another helpdesk platform?
Not if Freshdesk or Zendesk meets the queue’s channels, routing and reporting needs. Zendesk has the higher overall Help Desk G2 Score, 95 versus 84; Freshdesk has higher ease-of-use and setup ratings. Agentforce Service leads the full category at 99, but adopting another case platform adds licensing, configuration and integration work.

When does Freshdesk or Zendesk cover the job?
Freshdesk or Zendesk already meets your ticket, channel and reporting requirements with manageable administration.
When should you consider Agentforce Service?
A Salesforce-centered customer operation requires service/CRM workflows that your pilot cannot meet in the selected helpdesk. Budget implementation, data ownership and another license.
Bundles and entitlements
Which capabilities actually come together in a plan?
Freshdesk’s standalone plans bundle email support, a portal, knowledge and analytics; Omni adds the broader channel workspace. Zendesk Support Team covers the core email-ticketing workflow, while Suite combines additional channels, knowledge and routing. Higher tiers change reporting, routing, AI assistance and governance.
What does Freshdesk include?
Growth includes ticketing and a shared inbox, a customer portal and knowledge base, baseline analytics, roles and access to Freddy AI Agent with an initial session allowance. Pro adds custom reporting and intelligent routing; Enterprise adds skill-based routing and governance. Omni is a separate plan family for broader channels.
What does Zendesk include?
Support Team includes email ticketing, routing, prebuilt dashboards, responses, customer context and automations. Suite Team adds knowledge, messaging, live chat, telephony and omnichannel routing. Suite Professional adds skills-based routing, Admin Copilot, writing tools and Quick Reports; the full agent Copilot and usage allowances have separate terms.
Support plan families
Which support plan family should you shortlist?
Shortlist standalone Freshdesk and Zendesk Support for an email-first helpdesk. Shortlist Freshdesk Omni and Zendesk Suite when messaging, live chat, social or phone channels are part of the rollout. Voice add-ons, usage and specialized contact-center requirements still need separate costing.
Is email support enough?
It can be when email intake, a portal, routing rules and baseline reporting cover the service process. Freshdesk and Zendesk Support are the relevant starting families. Choose the edition around required knowledge, reporting and agent rights, rather than assuming every feature is in the entry plan.
Do you need multiple channels?
Freshdesk Omni and Zendesk Suite are the relevant families when agents must handle messaging or other channels alongside tickets. Omni voice is a paid add-on; Zendesk telephony and specialized Contact Center have different commercial scope. Price the actual channels and usage your team needs.
AI and data
Which data and integration layer will agents need?
Both can connect ticket work with Slack, Jira and Salesforce, but each connector supports specific actions and objects. Use Slack for collaboration, Jira for engineering handoffs and the documented Salesforce connection for customer context. Assign record ownership and test failed updates before enabling a shared workflow.
Where will Freshdesk get customer context?
Slack, Jira and Salesforce connector support different handoffs. Freshdesk’s paid Salesforce Connector documents contact/account recipes; confirm objects, direction, task packs and permissions rather than assuming a blanket two-way case sync.
Where will Zendesk get customer context?
Slack, Jira and Salesforce integration have distinct scopes. Zendesk ticket-to-Salesforce-case synchronization excludes attachments and closed tickets. Validate identity matching and failure recovery.
Use one shared test: receive a request, retrieve permitted customer context, escalate a linked issue and return the resolution to the ticket. Record who owns the customer-facing status, how duplicates are prevented and what happens when a connector fails.
AI capabilities
Freddy AI vs Zendesk AI: what is included and what costs extra?
Freshdesk includes an initial Freddy AI Agent session allowance; extra sessions cost $49 per 100, and Freddy Copilot lists $29 per eligible agent/month. Zendesk has expanded AI-agent access across Support and Suite, with account-specific resolution allowances and usage charges. Full agent Copilot is separately priced; Admin Copilot is an administrator tool. The table separates those rights.
| Question | Freshdesk / Freddy AI | Zendesk |
|---|---|---|
| What is included at entry level? | Freshdesk Growth includes access to Freddy AI Agent and 500 complimentary sessions once per account. Email sessions span 72 hours; extra packs list $49 per 100 sessions. Check pricing terms | Zendesk expanded advanced AI-agent access across all Suite and Support plans in 2026. Channels still require the appropriate service rights. Read the rollout announcement |
| What changes at higher tiers? | Freddy Copilot lists $29/agent/month on eligible higher plans. Insights supports supervisors; service limits apply. See Insights scope | Suite Professional lists Admin Copilot, writing tools and Quick Reports. Its writing/summary allowance is pooled: 5 uses/agent/month, capped at 500/instance. Full Copilot lists $50/agent/month on eligible Professional+ plans. |
| What should you test? | Ground answers in your own content, test wrong answers and human handoff, and model paid sessions after the one-time allowance. Pack validity follows the payment cycle. | On resolution tiers, verified resolutions consume allowance; assisted escalations and contained resolutions do not. The pricing matrix links an allocation guide for the older platform, so confirm your version and overage terms. Resolution tiers · Earlier platform |

Design the handoff: Choose the system owning each record, map IDs and status values, and test duplicate messages, revoked access, failed updates and recovery.
Buying priorities
Buyer priorities
What should each stakeholder validate?
Agents should prove the daily ticket queue, administrators should test routing and reporting changes, finance should price the complete purchase, and IT should verify record ownership and recovery. The User and Administrator findings below help focus those tests; the buying responsibilities are editorial guidance.
Can new agents handle the real queue?
Both have review evidence of useful ticket workflows, alongside usability and learning concerns. Use the User tabs to shape a new-agent test: triage, respond, escalate and close the same tickets. The 67 Freshdesk and 40 Zendesk Users are different review groups, not a controlled productivity comparison.
Try this: Have a new agent receive, triage, answer and close the same representative tickets; record errors, context changes and required assistance.
Evaluation checklist
What should your buying team check first?
Select your requirements to build a checklist with an owner for each item. It organizes the evaluation for IT, finance and operations; it does not score either vendor.
What belongs in your evaluation checklist?
Select the requirements that matter to your teamEach selection adds a specific check and an owner. Bring the result to your evaluation meeting.
Workflow in practice
How does a customer issue move through each platform?
Use the same support scenario: a customer reports a fault, support captures context, routes it, escalates the investigation if needed, resolves it and reviews the outcome. Owners, channel rights and escalation controls depend on your selected configuration.
Can the team see the customer and the request?
Freshdesk
Freshdesk captures email/portal tickets; use the separately priced Omni path for the required messaging channels.
Zendesk
Zendesk intake depends on the selected Support/Suite channels; capture the customer’s history in Agent Workspace.

Plans and costs
How should you compare the cost of the two platforms?
Start with one workload and one currency. Freshdesk, Freshdesk Omni, Zendesk Support and Zendesk Suite are different purchase paths. Add only the optional products and usage your team requires.
US dollar list prices, per agent/month on annual commitment unless stated; checked November 2, 2026. Vendor pages can localize currency: select USD and annual billing before reconciling these figures. Freshdesk pricing · Freshdesk Omni pricing · Zendesk pricing
| Offering | Published US price | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Freshdesk Growth / Pro / Enterprise | $19 / $55 / $89 | Standalone helpdesk family; higher tiers change routing, reporting and governance. |
| Freshdesk Omni Growth / Pro / Enterprise | $29 / $79 / $119 | Separately priced omnichannel family; voice add-ons and usage remain separate. |
| Zendesk Support Team | $19 | Email-support purchase path; do not assume every Suite channel is included. |
| Zendesk Suite Team / Professional | $55 / $115 | Broader channel/knowledge scope; confirm routing and AI entitlements. |
| Zendesk Enterprise configurations | Request a quote | Do not invent a price for quote-only packages. |
| Zendesk Contact Center | $83 plus prerequisites and consumption | Annual rate; ordinarily requires Suite and Premier. One 1,000-minute block/user/month; additional blocks and AWS/telephony charges are separate. Terms |
AI costs
How do AI charges change the comparison?
AI usage and staff assistance can add costs beyond the helpdesk seat. Freshdesk bills extra AI Agent sessions and eligible Copilot seats; Zendesk uses account-specific resolution allowances and optional agent assistance. Voice and specialized service add further charges. A session and a verified automated resolution are different billing units.
| Purchase basis | Published Freshdesk example | Published Zendesk example |
|---|---|---|
| Customer-facing AI | 500 complimentary Freddy sessions once per account; additional $49/100 sessions. Packs expire with payment cycle. | AI access spans Suite and Support; verify channel rights, account platform, resolution allowance and overage terms. |
| Staff assistance | Freddy Copilot $29/agent/month on eligible higher plans. | Full Copilot $50/agent/month on eligible Professional+ plans. Admin Copilot has an administration scope. |
| Voice and specialized service | Omni voice add-on $15 / $39 / $69 by tier, plus usage; standalone Freshcaller has its own plans. | Contact Center blocks, telephony and AWS consumption are separate from the base helpdesk license. |
| Optional apps and operations | Paid connectors, task packs, Freshservice and third-party tools can add charges. | QA $35 and Workforce Engagement $50/agent/month annually are optional packages; app subscriptions can add charges. |
Compare the cost of completing the same task. A Freddy session and a Zendesk verified automated resolution are different units. The Zendesk pricing matrix links an allocation guide for the earlier platform; confirm your account’s resolution-tier version rather than carrying legacy allowances forward automatically.

Switching and coexistence
What should you migrate, and what should you keep connected?
What moves from Freshdesk to Zendesk?
Inventory tickets, contacts, organizations, comments, private notes, attachments and knowledge. Zendesk’s Ticket Import API supports historical comments and timestamps; upload attachment tokens first. Normal metrics and SLAs are not supported for imported tickets. Rebuild and test routing, automations and article structure separately. Import API constraints
What moves from Zendesk to Freshdesk?
Confirm the chosen migration tool’s supported records and fields. Map identities and relationships; reconcile a sample by IDs, counts, comments, private notes, attachments and timestamps. Which offerings sit outside this purchase?
Freshworks also sells products such as Freshservice and Freshsales. Zendesk Employee Service, specialized Contact Center and optional workforce products have their own commercial scope. A shared vendor does not put every product into the Freshdesk or Zendesk customer-service subscription.

Frequently asked questions about Freshdesk vs Zendesk
Freshdesk vs Zendesk: which is better?
Freshdesk has higher normalized ease-of-use and setup ratings in the Fall 2026 Help Desk Grid; Zendesk has the higher overall G2 Score. Start with the platform whose named plan covers your channels, routing, reporting and integrations, then test the same support queue. The ratings do not establish a universal winner.
Freshdesk vs Zendesk pricing: which costs less?
US annual list prices for Freshdesk Growth and Zendesk Support Team are $19 per agent/month. For broader channels, Freshdesk Omni Growth lists at $29 and Zendesk Suite Team at $55. These packages have different rights; add AI usage, voice, optional products and implementation before comparing totals. Vendor pages may localize currency. Freshdesk pricing · Freshdesk Omni pricing · Zendesk pricing
What is included in Freshworks vs Zendesk Suite?
Freshworks is the vendor behind Freshdesk, Freshdesk Omni and Freshservice; it is not one all-inclusive support subscription. Zendesk Suite packages customer-service capabilities, while employee service, specialized contact center and optional workforce products have their own scope. Compare Freshdesk Omni with the named Zendesk Suite edition for your required channels, and price adjacent tools separately.
Is Freshservice the same as Freshdesk?
No. Freshdesk vs Freshservice is a choice between different service jobs: Freshdesk supports customers, while Freshservice supports IT and employee-service workflows. Freshservice’s asset, catalog and change-management capabilities depend on the selected purchase. Its subscription and G2 ratings are separate from Freshdesk’s. Freshservice features
Should I switch from Zendesk to Freshdesk?
Switch when a pilot shows that the chosen Freshdesk or Omni plan handles your queue, channels, routing, reports and integrations well enough to justify migration and recurring costs. Keep Zendesk when fixing configuration or ownership would solve the problem more economically. Reconcile tickets, private notes, attachments and identities before changing inbound routing.
Are Freshdesk and Zendesk the same?
No. Freshdesk is a Freshworks customer-support product; Zendesk is a different vendor’s customer-service platform. Both offer ticketing and related service capabilities, but their editions, omnichannel packages, AI units and optional products differ. Compare the named plans rather than assuming identical features from similar labels.
Does Zendesk have better features than Freshdesk?
There is no single feature winner across every plan. Freshdesk and Zendesk both cover core support, while channels, skills-based routing, reporting, AI assistance and governance change by edition or add-on. Use the core-app table to shortlist the right purchase, then test required capabilities and limits. Review complaints describe the reviewer’s setup; they do not prove a feature is absent from every current plan.
What migrates from Zendesk to Freshdesk, or from Freshdesk to Zendesk?
The chosen tool determines which tickets, contacts, organizations, comments, private notes, attachments, fields and knowledge content move. Validate a representative sample and rebuild operating rules and app connections separately. Zendesk’s Ticket Import API supports historical comments and timestamps, but normal metrics and SLAs are not supported for imported tickets. Zendesk import constraints
Freddy AI vs Zendesk AI: which is better for support?
This evidence does not establish an AI winner. Test the same knowledge, permitted actions, wrong answers and human handoffs. Freddy’s 500 complimentary sessions are once per account; paid sessions and Zendesk automated resolutions use different billing definitions. Confirm the Zendesk account’s resolution-tier version and channel rights before forecasting cost.
Freshdesk vs Zendesk for a small business: which should you shortlist?
Shortlist the plans that cover your actual support channels and staffing model. Freshdesk’s stronger Help Desk ease and setup ratings can inform a pilot, but they do not prove it is used mostly by small businesses or will be easier for every team. Test onboarding, routine tickets, administration and the full bill with your own users.
Does Freshdesk unify channels and customer context for agents?
Freshdesk provides ticketing and a shared support workspace; the separately priced Freshdesk Omni family is the broader channel path. Zendesk Suite also packages multiple service channels. In either pilot, check whether email, messaging and phone contacts resolve to the correct customer, how duplicates are handled and which team owns the next response. Freshdesk Omni
Is Freshdesk or Zendesk more secure for a growing company?
The evidence here does not establish a security winner. Verify the chosen edition’s identity, permissions, audit records, data handling and connector access against your requirements. Ease-of-administration scores and review sentiment are not security-effectiveness measurements. Have IT test the same onboarding, offboarding and restricted-data scenarios.
How should Slack, Jira and Salesforce integrations be evaluated?
Check each connector’s supported objects, sync direction, permissions, task or action allowance and API limits. Test duplicate customers, failed updates and ownership of customer-facing status. Freshdesk’s Salesforce Connector documents contact/account recipes; Zendesk’s ticket-to-Salesforce-case synchronization has attachment and closed-ticket exclusions. A directory listing does not imply complete two-way synchronization.
Does the calculator show a complete total cost?
It shows an approximate first-year estimate using the selected published agent rate, licensed agents, annual extras and one-time implementation costs you enter. It assumes unchanged pricing and usage for 12 months. Taxes, unentered AI/voice usage, apps, migration and training costs, discounts and renewal changes are excluded. Quote-only purchases need a vendor quote; the selected plans are not assumed to have equivalent features.

Research methodology
Scope and sources. Freshdesk and Freshdesk Omni are compared with Zendesk Support and Zendesk Suite for customer service. Employee-service and specialized contact-center products are separate purchases. Vendor documentation checked November 2, 2026 establishes packaging, capabilities and pricing; buyer tests and workflow steps are editorial guidance.
Grid evidence. Three released Fall 2026 Overall Global Grids cover Help Desk, ITSM and Contact Center. Published report rows were reconciled with quarterly warehouse snapshots. Scores and category review counts belong to each report; normalized ease and requirements ratings are not percentages agreeing. Outside alternatives are the highest-scoring products outside both compared vendors in the complete report. Aircall is an additional illustration, not the top-ranked outside entry.
Reviews. The UTC submission window is November 2, 2025 inclusive to November 2, 2026 exclusive. The sample contains 200 Freshdesk and 148 Zendesk reviews with active approved status, original English, current-user status and nonempty published like/dislike answers. IDs and actual User/Administrator roles reconcile across G2 and the warehouse. AI analyzed complete answers contextually for seven defined themes, including negation, mixed sentiment and app attribution; this is not independent human annotation. Each review counts once per theme against its eligible role group, including reviews with no theme. Themes overlap and describe these samples, not all customers. The evidence record retains eligibility decisions, text-version differences and all 42 recomputed aggregates.
Pricing and examples. Prices are US dollars on annual commitments where shown; vendor pages can localize currency. Named editions, written entitlements, usage units and account-specific terms take precedence over portfolio labels. The calculator combines base seats with the extras and implementation estimates entered by the reader, excluding unentered costs. Linked reviews illustrate feedback, not every pipeline feature or a security outcome.
A Freshservice rating does not measure Freshdesk, and a Contact Center review does not establish how Zendesk’s core helpdesk performs. Compare the product and buyer job before transferring evidence between apps. Outside-vendor choices use the complete report, exclude both compared vendors and account for ownership; no displayed top-score ties were found.
Normalized satisfaction ratings from the same Overall Global reports used below. These percentages are rating scales, not the share agreeing. G2 Score combines Satisfaction and Market Presence; category review counts are not lifetime product totals.
Product names follow the released report; vendor packaging and product names may subsequently change. Freshcaller is the snapshot’s voice-product label. Salesforce’s category row represents its service product in that category, not every Salesforce subscription.
Freshdesk first, Zendesk for Customer Service second. Fall 2026 Overall Global Help Desk Grid. G2 Score is out of 100; ease and fit are normalized ratings, not shares of reviewers agreeing. Checked November 2, 2026.
Integration selection. The five external-stack examples were selected from named connections in the established annual review evidence and first-party documentation checked November 3, 2026. They are not a ranked popularity list. Each documented connection applies to its named app and requires its own permissions, licensing and setup checks.
