A practical guide to products, costs, and tradeoffs
Compare where Salesforce and ServiceNow overlap, what their packages include, and what reviewers say about running them.
Salesforce is shown first and ServiceNow second. Compare customer service in Help Desk, custom apps in Low-Code Development Platforms, and field operations in Field Service Management.
The decision
Team summary
What is the difference between Salesforce and ServiceNow?
Salesforce’s portfolio is centered on customer records and revenue work; ServiceNow’s is centered on service and operational workflows. Their offerings now overlap across several jobs. Compare the particular products and purchased packages, rather than treating either vendor’s entire portfolio as one subscription.
Does your project start with customer revenue?
Compare Sales Cloud and ServiceNow Sales CRM for selling; Service Cloud and CSM for support. Test the same lead-to-quote or case-to-resolution process. Salesforce has much more CRM Grid evidence; ServiceNow’s small Sales CRM review sample makes a hands-on pilot especially important.
Does it start with service operations?
Start with the IT service products when employee requests, incidents, changes and assets define the project. ServiceNow ITSM leads the checked Service Desk Grid; Salesforce IT Service has no entry in that report. Compare licensed coverage and a real service-desk pilot before choosing.
Could keeping both be the better option?
Keeping both is worth testing when customer teams and operational teams already have working systems. Compare the ongoing cost of a governed integration with the cost and disruption of replacing one. Assign a single owner for every shared record.
Decision factors
What should you decide before comparing prices?
Write down the users, records and handoffs that the first rollout must cover. Then ask each vendor for a package that meets that scope. “Salesforce” and “ServiceNow” name portfolios; they do not describe two equivalent all-inclusive licenses.
Reviewer ratings
Category evidence
Which G2 categories compare the same job?
Use Help Desk for customer service, Service Desk for IT support, and Field Service Management for field operations.
Reviewer ratings
What do the shared-category ratings tell you?
| Job | Ease of use · Salesforce / ServiceNow | Meets requirements · Salesforce / ServiceNow | What to test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customer support | 86% / 86% | 87% / 88% | Case routing, customer context and escalation. |
| Field service | 86% / 86% | 88% / 89% | Dispatch changes, mobile work and parts handling. |
| IT service | No Grid entry / 87% | No Grid entry / 91% | Requester and fulfiller workflows; missing evidence is not a zero score. |
| Customer-support AI | 85% / 84% | 86% / 84% | Task accuracy, permission boundaries and human handoffs. |
| Low-code applications | 88% / 88% | 91% / 87% | Build, modify and maintain your own app. |
| Quoting | 83% / 87% | 88% / 91% | A complex configuration, discount exception and approval. |
There is no consistent usability winner across these jobs. Service Cloud leads the overall Help Desk Grid, while CSM has a slightly higher requirements rating. App Engine has the higher overall Low-Code score, while Salesforce Platform has the higher requirements rating. Small rating differences are prompts for a pilot, not proof of a better fit.

Salesforce leads this CRM Grid. HubSpot has a lower overall score but higher ease-of-use and setup ratings. ServiceNow Sales CRM has a G2 listing in CRM and Quote-to-Cash, but no scored entry in this CRM Grid. Its one recent review describes Sales and Order Management; CSM and ITSM scores are not substitutes.
When should you keep the platform product?
Qualify a lead, progress an opportunity and produce the required sales handoff. Keep the platform product when it meets that test and shared records, permissions and administration reduce work.
When should you choose HubSpot Sales Hub?
Your pilot favors its selling workflow and onboarding, and connecting service or operations elsewhere is acceptable.

Bundles and entitlements
Which products actually come together in a bundle?
What do Salesforce’s service tiers include?
Core includes case management, a help center and Slack Business+. Advanced expands the service package; check the feature table for AI entitlements and separately purchased add-ons. Max adds a broader AI and contact-center bundle, Slack Enterprise+, Tableau Next and 10 IT Service Desk licenses per organization. These are service editions; not the entire Salesforce portfolio.
How is ServiceNow packaged?
CSM Advanced includes cases, playbooks, portals and work assignment; Prime adds AI Specialists and workforce optimization. ITSM is a separate Foundation, Advanced or Prime package. FSM has Advanced and Prime packages. Ask for the exact cross-product rights in the quote.
Sales and revenue bundles
How should you shortlist the sales and revenue bundles?
Which Salesforce sales package fits?
Starter and Pro combine sales, service, marketing and commerce. Sales Cloud then has Core, Advanced and Max editions. Core lists Slack Business+ and Tableau Next; Advanced expands security and AI; Max adds sales planning, incentives, maps and a larger AI allowance. Revenue and field-service requirements still need their own entitlement check.
What belongs in the ServiceNow sales quote?
ServiceNow’s sales offering brings together Sales Automation, CPQ and Order Management. Ask for these capabilities explicitly alongside CSM or FSM. CRM Foundation on the CSM pricing page does not establish that every sales product is included.
AI and data
Which data and integration layer will your agents need?
Where will Salesforce get its context?
Data 360 provides customer and enterprise-data context; MuleSoft connects systems and workflows. Tableau supplies analytics. These are different jobs within the portfolio, and the required capacity and product rights should be explicit in the proposal.
Where will ServiceNow get its context?
Workflow Data Fabric connects data to ServiceNow workflows, with RaptorDB supporting the platform’s data infrastructure and Integration Hub connecting applications. Test access to your actual systems, data freshness and recovery when a connection fails.
Use one shared test: Ask an agent to retrieve a customer or employee record, take an authorized action in another system, and explain the result. Check access controls, audit history and consumption charges. A broader data portfolio does not prove a better outcome for that task.
AI capabilities
Agentforce vs ServiceNow AI agents: which is better?
Choose around the workflow the agent must complete, the data it may access and the actions it may take. Use the AI Customer Support Agents category comparison and product-specific review findings in this guide as inputs, then test permissions, human handoff and output quality on your own tasks. Those findings do not establish an across-the-board AI winner or equal entitlements in every package.
| Question | Salesforce | ServiceNow |
|---|---|---|
| Who will use it? | Separate employees, service agents and external customers. | Specify the workflow package, AI capabilities and user population. |
| What is the usage allowance? | Some employee AI is unmetered; credits and exclusions still matter for other activity. | CSM advertises unlimited Virtual Agent conversations; this does not establish unlimited use of every AI capability. |
| What should the pilot prove? | Can an agent act on the right records and hand off a failed task? | Can an agent follow the process, respect permissions and leave an auditable result? |

What do reviewers value and find difficult?
Reviewers value connected information and automated workflows, but also describe the work involved in setup and learning. Select a product area to explore those strengths and trade-offs.

ServiceNow Sales CRM
Extended review sample · 1 qualifying review · 2026-05-06–2026-05-06
Valued: Sales and order fields connected to customer-service workflows.

Only one review qualifies, so these are individual observations rather than percentages.
Percentages show the share of reviews expressing each theme. One review can cover several themes; these are review samples, not estimates for all customers. Details are in Research methodology.
Connecting the platforms
How do Salesforce and ServiceNow integrate?
There are documented connections in both directions: Salesforce Flow can act on ServiceNow records, while ServiceNow’s Salesforce spoke can work with Salesforce objects. Decide which system owns each record and what each connection may change. A connector does not by itself establish automatic two-way synchronization or included licensing.
What can Salesforce send to ServiceNow?
The ServiceNow connector for Salesforce Flow supports actions such as creating, updating and closing incidents and updating service requests. General connector documentation specifies MuleSoft for Flow integration rights, with exceptions; verify the entitlement for the product you buy.
What can ServiceNow do with Salesforce records?
The Salesforce spoke works with objects including accounts, contacts, cases, leads, opportunities and orders. Its setup documentation requires an Integration Hub subscription and a configured Salesforce connection.
Design the handoff: Choose the system that owns each record, map IDs and status values, and test duplicate messages, failed updates and permission changes. A connector listing alone does not promise automatic two-way synchronization.
Integrations with your stack
Which Salesforce and ServiceNow integrations fit your existing stack?
Start with Slack, Microsoft 365, Jira, Google Workspace and SAP. Compare the actual connection on each side, including setup, permissions and any separate integration license.
Slack
How does Slack connect conversations to workflow?
Reviewers value connected updates and collaboration; some also describe inconsistent notifications.
Salesforce
Salesforce apps connect CRM work with Slack. Confirm the selected app and edition; a Slack entitlement alone does not configure the connection.
ServiceNow
The Slack spoke requires Integration Hub, activation and a configured Slack OAuth app. Available actions depend on token permissions.
Check before rollout: Test the specific record updates, notifications and permissions your team needs.
How does Microsoft 365 connect email and team collaboration?
Reviewers describe Outlook context and Teams connections, alongside occasional reconnection or setup difficulties.
Salesforce
The Outlook integration brings Salesforce records into email workflows. The Teams app lets permitted users mention and interact with Salesforce records after administrator setup.
ServiceNow
Teams Graph and Exchange Online spokes connect Microsoft services to workflows. Setup requires the relevant Integration Hub rights, activation, authentication and permissions.
Check before rollout: Choose the actual Outlook, Teams or Exchange action. These are separate connections, not automatic synchronization of the entire suite.
How does Jira connect customer cases to development work?
Reviewers discuss connecting service work to Jira; some flag the effort of coordinating the processes.
Salesforce
MuleSoft’s Jira connector can connect Salesforce workflows to Jira Cloud through its API. Configure the flow and field mapping for your use case.
ServiceNow
The Jira spoke supports Jira actions and configured webhooks for ServiceNow workflows. Set up the connection and event handling.
Check before rollout: Confirm connector licensing, supported deployment and ownership of each record. A connector does not create a complete two-way case-to-issue process by itself.
How does Google Workspace connect email and shared information?
Reviewers mention Gmail and Workspace connections; configuration can still take work.
Salesforce
The Gmail integration brings Salesforce records into email workflows and supports logging email to relevant records. Administrator setup is required; Inbox extras have additional requirements.
ServiceNow
The Google Sheets spoke connects workflows to spreadsheets through an authorized Google API connection. It requires Integration Hub, activation and administrator configuration.
Check before rollout: Compare the particular workflow you need. A Gmail sidebar and a Sheets automation solve different jobs; neither connects every Workspace app automatically.
SAP
How does SAP connect ERP records to workflow?
Reviewers discuss SAP connections and reusable integration work, including situations that need custom actions.
Salesforce
MuleSoft’s separately licensed SAP connector supports BAPI/RFC and IDoc exchanges with supported SAP systems. Configure credentials, libraries and the required flows.
ServiceNow
The SAP S/4HANA RFC spoke, built by Bristlecone, supports documented procurement and journal actions. It requires the Store application and an Integration Hub subscription.
Check before rollout: Verify your exact SAP edition, release and required transactions. Support for one SAP connector does not establish compatibility with every SAP deployment.
Buying priorities
Buyer priorities
What should each stakeholder validate?
The sections below use the past year’s G2 review themes to highlight buying priorities and practical tests for each stakeholder. The findings draw on the named products’ user and administrator reviews.
Can agents resolve a case without losing context?
Some users value connected information: 24 of 35 Service Cloud user reviews and 5 of 6 CSM user reviews express this theme. The CSM role sample is small; use it to shape a pilot rather than rank the platforms.
Try this: Give agents the same customer case, account history and escalation. Record where they leave the workspace or re-enter information.
Evaluation checklist
What should your buying team check first?
Select your requirements to build a checklist with an owner for each item. It organizes the evaluation for IT, finance and operations; it does not score either vendor.
What belongs in your evaluation checklist?
Select the requirements that matter to your teamEach selection adds a specific check and an owner. Bring the result to your evaluation meeting.
Workflow in practice
How does a customer issue move through each platform?
Use the same service scenario for both pilots: a customer reports a fault, the support team diagnoses it, a technician visits, and the case closes. These are evaluation steps, not a claim of measured completion speed.

Plans and costs
How should you compare the cost of the two platforms?
Start with one workload. Salesforce publishes US list prices for its sales and service editions; ServiceNow’s CSM and ITSM package pages request a custom quote. Enter the quoted annual cost for the same scope rather than inventing a per-user ServiceNow price.
US pricing checked November 3, 2026: Salesforce Sales · Salesforce Service · Salesforce Agentforce · Salesforce IT Service · ServiceNow CSM · ServiceNow ITSM
| Offering | Published US price | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Starter Suite | $25/user/month | Sales, service, marketing and commerce entry suite; monthly or annual billing. |
| Pro Suite | $100/user/month | Broader suite features; annual billing. |
| Sales or Service Core | $195/user/month | Choose the Sales or Service edition; annual billing. |
| Sales or Service Advanced | $395/user/month | Choose the Sales or Service edition; annual billing. |
| Sales or Service Max | $550/user/month | Choose the Sales or Service edition; annual billing. |
| IT Service Desk | $75 Enterprise / $150 Unlimited per user/month | Fulfiller roles; quote requester and infrastructure requirements separately. |
| Field Service Plus | $230/user/month | Enterprise-edition bundle combines dispatcher, technician, sales and service functionality; annual billing. |
| ServiceNow CSM Advanced / Prime | Custom quote; no public list rate on the package page | Customer service packages; quote users, AI and any cross-product rights. |
| ServiceNow ITSM Foundation / Advanced / Prime | Custom quote; no public list rate on the package page | IT service packages; quote the required employee and fulfiller scope separately. |
AI costs
How do AI charges change the comparison?
| Purchase basis | Published Salesforce example | What to ask ServiceNow |
|---|---|---|
| Usage | Flex Credits: $500 per 100,000. Standard Agentforce actions use 20 credits ($0.10); Voice actions use 30 ($0.15). | Which AI actions and allowances are included in the quoted workflow package, and what creates an extra charge? |
| Conversations | A separate $2-per-conversation model is listed for customer-facing agents. | CSM packages include unlimited Virtual Agent conversations; confirm the scope of other AI capabilities. |
| Employee access | Agentforce Coworker has a $50/user/month standalone license. Cloud-specific AI add-ons have different entitlements. | Which users need licenses, and which assistant or specialist capabilities are covered? |
Compare the cost of completing the same task. One conversation can trigger several actions, and a per-user license can cover a different scope from either usage model. Include only incremental charges after checking what the selected bundle already provides.
Cost calculator
What would your selected scope cost?
Build two proposals for the same customer-service workload. Salesforce uses a published Service edition; ServiceNow uses your annual CSM subscription quote. These are different packages, not equivalent licenses. Add only costs not already included.
ServiceNow publishes package contents but requests a custom quote for CSM and ITSM. The ServiceNow result stays pending until you enter that quote; $0 would not be a valid price assumption.

Taxes, discounts and unentered usage, storage, support, implementation or migration costs are excluded.
Migration and rollout
What should you migrate, and what should you keep connected?
Which records need to move?
Inventory customers, contacts, cases, assets, knowledge and attachments. Decide which history must remain searchable, and map ownership, status and access before importing a pilot batch.
Which processes need rebuilding?
List routing, approvals, SLAs, automations, integrations and reporting. Exporting records does not reproduce the workflow around them. Treat migration, testing and training as separate workstreams.
Beyond the core suite
Which offerings sit outside your chosen package?
Neither a Salesforce Service edition nor a ServiceNow CSM package buys the entire vendor portfolio. Use the additional-apps inventory above to scope the products you would purchase separately.
What else does Salesforce offer?
Marketing and commerce, Tableau, MuleSoft, data products and industry offerings may extend the rollout. Some bundles include specific rights; confirm those rights rather than assuming full standalone editions.
What else does ServiceNow offer?
IT operations, asset management, security and risk, HR, legal and strategic portfolio workflows extend beyond customer service. Each needs its own scope and entitlement check.

Frequently asked questions about Salesforce vs ServiceNow
Should we use Salesforce or ServiceNow for customer service?
Compare Service Cloud and CSM for your specific channels, case processes and operational handoffs. Both offer customer-service capabilities. Service Cloud leads the Fall 2026 Overall Help Desk Grid at 99/100 versus CSM at 74/100. That score combines satisfaction and market presence; CSM has a slightly higher requirements rating, so test the actual workload before choosing.
Is ServiceNow a CRM, and can it replace Salesforce?
ServiceNow documents Sales CRM as part of its CRM portfolio. Replacement depends on the sales, marketing, quoting and service functions you need. Its G2 Sales CRM entry has limited review history, so this guide does not borrow CSM or ITSM evidence to rate it.
Is Salesforce an ITSM tool?
Yes. Its current IT Service page describes service-desk editions, employee AI and asset/CMDB options. Compare the exact licensed scope with ServiceNow ITSM and any additional operations products.
Can we use both platforms together?
Yes. The vendors document connectors between Salesforce and ServiceNow. Define record ownership, mapping, failure handling and subscription requirements before relying on the connection.
Does one subscription include the whole portfolio?
No single subscription is assumed to include every product listed here. Use the named bundle and written entitlements as the purchasing scope.
Does the calculator show a complete total cost?
It combines the selected license estimate or quote with the extras and implementation amounts you enter. Taxes, discounts, renewal changes, consumption and costs you have not entered are excluded.
Salesforce vs ServiceNow: which is better for an enterprise?
Start with the work and records the platform must own. Shortlist Salesforce when customer and revenue processes are central; shortlist ServiceNow when IT and operational service workflows are central. Then compare the overlapping products in the same G2 category and validate the proposed bundle. These are evaluation starting points, not a claim that either vendor cannot serve the other’s use cases.
When should you choose ServiceNow over Salesforce?
Evaluate ServiceNow first when the main requirement is IT service or coordinating operational service workflows. For customer service, compare CSM with Service Cloud rather than applying ITSM ratings to CSM. For sales, evaluate Sales CRM separately: the review evidence for other ServiceNow products cannot establish its suitability for your sales process.
How do you connect ServiceNow to Agentforce?
Define the ServiceNow action first, such as creating an incident. Salesforce documents custom Agentforce actions backed by External Services. For an API-based connection, register the approved API operations, configure authentication and map only the required inputs and outputs. The ServiceNow connector for Flow is another documented integration option, whose use with Agentforce depends on the supported configuration. Confirm connector and Agentforce entitlements for your edition, then test permissions, failure handling and human approval before allowing updates. This requires configuration; it is not an automatic connection between the two AI products.
ServiceNow or Salesforce: which should you choose for AI governance?
The evidence here does not establish a governance winner. Ask each vendor to demonstrate which agents and data sources the proposed package governs, how permissions and approvals are enforced, what audit records are available and how an action can be stopped or escalated. Test the same scenarios in both proposals. General AI-agent ratings are not a measure of governance effectiveness.
Start with the products that will own your workflow.
Research methodology
Scope and sources. Vendor scope checked October 29–30, 2026; pricing rechecked November 3, 2026. Vendor documentation establishes product scope, bundle entitlements, pricing and integration capabilities. Undated live pages were checked in 2026; no publication date is implied. Buyer tests and workflow steps are editorial guidance.
Grid evidence. Product-to-category mappings come from the G2 catalog. Eight Fall 2026 Overall Grid reports were read directly on G2 and matched to released quarterly report snapshots in the warehouse, without company-size filters. Scores and category review counts come from each report; ease of use, setup and requirements are normalized ratings, not percentages of reviewers who agree. G2 scores combine satisfaction and market presence. Outside alternatives are the highest-scoring entries outside Salesforce and ServiceNow in the same report, including ties; they may belong to another broader suite. Missing entries are not zero scores. Grid cohorts are separate from the past-year review analysis.
Reviews. The corrected sample contains 904 reviews across 16 product cohorts, including one with no eligible reviews. Active English reviews submitted October 29, 2025–October 28, 2026, with verified-current-user status and written feedback, form the review sample. Eligibility, review IDs and G2 User/Administrator roles were reconciled against the warehouse. AI reviewed complete like/dislike answers in context using the same rules for both compared products; positive themes use like-best answers and concerns use dislike answers. Each review counts once per theme; themes may overlap. Rates describe these review samples, not all customers. This is contextual AI classification, not independent human annotation. Buyer responsibilities are editorial applications of User or Administrator evidence, not department-specific review groups. Small samples receive qualitative summaries rather than broad prevalence claims.
Pricing and examples. US list prices and selected entitlements describe the named edition. Specific edition tables and written entitlements take precedence over broad portfolio-level bundle claims. Quotes, implementation, usage allowances and optional products change the cost. The calculator is a scenario, not a vendor quote. Linked reviews illustrate a theme; they do not verify every pipeline feature.
Product names. Salesforce Platform and the report’s Salesforce Headless 360 Platform (formerly Salesforce Platform) refer to the same product listing. Names can change without changing the source cohort.
Extended samples for sparse products. Where the original product cohort has fewer than ten reviews, a separate supplement uses the latest up to 50 returned active English reviews with verified-current-user status and written like/dislike feedback, ordered by submission date after complete pagination. It does not change the original 904-review cohort or any role rates. Retrieved November 2–3, 2026: Revenue Cloud 50 (May 18, 2023–September 15, 2026); ServiceNow CPQ 16 (December 22, 2022–October 25, 2026); Integration Hub 5 (September 13, 2022–April 29, 2026); Sales CRM 1 (May 6, 2026); Salesforce IT Service 0. For supplemental samples of at least ten reviews, contextual AI theme-mention rates use all eligible reviews in that separate sample as the denominator. Quoting/configuration praise comes from like-best answers; usability, setup or learning concerns come from dislike answers. Samples below ten receive qualitative themes only. Supplemental rates describe historical samples and are not directly comparable with past-year rates or each other because their dates differ. Older CPQ reviews include Logik.io and Revenue Cloud history spans product generations; reported issues may have changed or been resolved. The separately labeled IT Service example does not meet verified-current-user eligibility. The supplemental samples have not received the warehouse reconciliation applied to the original yearly cohort.
Category scope. Help Desk covers the customer-service comparison; Service Desk covers IT support; Field Service Management covers field operations; Low-Code Development Platforms covers custom apps. Other comparisons use CRM, CPQ, AI Customer Support Agents and iPaaS as labeled. Each product pair uses its named Overall Grid. Scores are not averaged across products into a suite score. Data 360 and Workflow Data Fabric do not have a matched category cohort in this guide.
Integration priorities. The five examples draw on named connections in the established October 29, 2025–October 28, 2026 review sample and first-party documentation checked November 3, 2026. Comparisons, unrelated mentions and requests for future connections were excluded. Microsoft email and collaboration mentions are grouped under Microsoft 365; Gmail mentions under Workspace. Buyer relevance breaks ties. These are review-informed priorities, not an adoption or market-wide popularity ranking.
