I’m the kind of person who loves a well-organized system.
If I’m packing for a trip, you won’t catch me throwing things into a suitcase last minute. Nope. I’ve got a checklist, packing cubes, and a method for making sure everything fits perfectly. Because when things are in order, everything runs smoother.
And honestly, that same principle applies to audit management. When you have the right tools in place, tracking compliance and staying organized becomes a whole lot easier.
I know how frustrating it can be to juggle spreadsheets, emails, and outdated systems, only to still feel like you’re drowning in audit chaos. That’s why I set out to find the best audit management software solutions that balance powerful features, ease of use, and automation to take the headache out of audits.
After reviewing thousands of G2 user reviews and comparing top tools, I’ve narrowed it down to six audit management platforms that truly stand out. Whether you're a compliance officer, an internal auditor, or a business leader looking for a smarter way to manage risk, this list is packed with options worth considering.
Let’s dive in and find the right tool to keep your audits running smoothly.
* These best audit management software solutions are top-rated in their category, according to G2 Grid Reports. Please contact the platform and request demos and to find out more about the pricing details.
Audits are a crucial part of compliance and enterpise risk management, but without the right tools, they can quickly become overwhelming. Tracking regulatory requirements, managing audit workflows, and ensuring documentation are in order isn’t as simple as just following a checklist I use for packing. Compliance professionals need software that can automate the tedious parts and help them focus on ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Some tools streamline reporting; others offer automated risk assessments, real-time tracking, or seamless collaboration features. With the right solution, it’s possible to spend less time buried in spreadsheets and more time driving meaningful improvements.
After analyzing thousands of G2 reviews and comparing the top-rated tools, I’ve selected six audit management platforms that truly stand out.
I spent weeks evaluating audit management software, focusing on features, ease of use, and real user feedback. To ensure these recommendations are both accurate and actionable, I also used AI to analyze G2 review patterns, track recent software updates, and surface common challenges teams face when managing audits.
I also consulted professionals with hands-on experience and cross-referenced their feedback with verified G2 user reviews. My evaluation incorporates current buyer sentiment and G2's proprietary scoring data to reflect how each platform performs in the real world. The screenshots featured in this article come from a combination of vendor-supplied images on G2 and publicly available visuals.
Every tool on this list is designed to help teams streamline audit processes, manage compliance, and reduce risk without adding unnecessary complexity.
With so many audit and risk management software in the market, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by features, dashboards, and promises of "total compliance." But what makes audit management software truly worth it isn’t just the feature list; it’s how well it supports your actual workflow.
The best tools don’t just check boxes. They reduce chaos, bring structure to complex processes, and help you stay ahead of compliance requirements without burning out your team. I think it all comes down to usability, automation tools, reporting clarity, and how seamlessly it fits into your existing systems.
Here’s what I looked for when deciding whether an audit management platform is worth the time, money, and long-term commitment.
*This data was pulled from G2 in 2025. Some reviews may have been edited for clarity.
AuditBoard is a tool users seem genuinely impressed by. It shows up often in G2 reviews from teams looking to simplify audit management without sacrificing control. According to reviewers, the interface is clean, intuitive, and easy to pick up. Workflow tracking also gets a lot of love. Users say it helps them assign tasks, keep deadlines in check, and avoid constant email back-and-forth. Based on feedback, one of the biggest strengths is how well it centralizes collaboration and documentation, especially when managing multiple audits with different stakeholders involved.
I consistently noticed in G2 reviews how much users appreciated AuditBoard’s compliance management and reporting tools. Whether they were prepping for a regulatory review or pulling historical data, many users said the reporting experience was quick and straightforward. What impressed me most from user feedback was the flexibility around customization. Several teams shared that they could tailor fields and workflows to match how they work instead of adapting to rigid software constraints.
But the platform isn’t without its quirks, and user feedback echoes that. The AuditBoard Sync feature gets glitches like changes not saving correctly or updates being overwritten. That’s not ideal when you’re working under pressure.
The reviews on ABI dashboards are mixed. While the visuals look great once they’re live, my research suggests that setup can be slow, and filters don’t always save between sessions.
Another theme I saw was around the platform’s AI capabilities. While it’s nice that AuditBoard incorporates intelligent features, several reviewers said the AI-generated results often need heavy edits. Most of them end up reworking the content manually anyway.
I also encountered complaints about performance. Load times and document updates can be hit or miss, and some users experience lag. Finally, AuditBoard is definitely positioned as a premium tool, and that came through in a number of reviews. If your team isn’t using most of the features, the cost can be tough to justify.
"I think my favorite thing about Auditboard is the ability to incorporate just about any file format - whether that be excel spreadsheet, word document, pdf, outlook file, powerpoint slide, etc! Not only can you incorporate almost any file format, but you can open it for editing and when you're done, you can save it and it updates the document to include the changes that were made. Having a centralized one-stop shop for an audit department is a must, and auditoard exceeds all other competition!"
- AuditBoard Review, Nick N.
"The level of administrating the system: adding fields, data, populating steps, all the required fields to be completed to enable dashboards and archiving. It's also tedious to sign off on steps, add documents, and populate issues and Management Action Plans. Sync and editing documents online sometimes get lost. Finally, when comparing our efficiency to produce work before we had AuditBoard to after we got the tool, I think we were faster and more efficient to produce high quality audits before we started using AB."

If you’re dealing with complex reporting, audits, or compliance tasks across teams, Workiva handles everything well.
The first thing that stood out to me? Ease of use. Several G2 users say that once you get past the initial setup, the interface is super clean and intuitive. The platform makes it super simple to create and update documents, link data, and collaborate with teammates in real time. It sounds like editing the same doc at the same time where nothing gets overwritten.
Workiva’s dynamic linking feature gets a ton of love in G2 reviews. Users highlight how easy it is to connect data across documents; you can change a number in one place, and it updates everywhere automatically. It saves teams from the hassle of manual updates and the stress of missing something important.
Version control is another standout feature that came up often in G2 reviews. Users mentioned being able to pull previous document versions down to the exact minute. I can imagine this being helpful when someone asks, “Wait, what was in the doc last Tuesday?” The platform’s collaboration capabilities also received a lot of positive feedback. Whether it’s SEC filings, audit support documentation, or control testing, teams say they’re able to work simultaneously without getting in each other’s way.
Of course, it’s not without trade-offs. A recurring review theme is pricing. Workiva isn’t the most budget-friendly option, and the cost can be tough to justify for smaller teams or companies that don’t need every advanced feature.
Several users also pointed out that the platform can feel a bit too heavy for quick or simple tasks. If the goal is just to build a basic document or make a fast update, the overall complexity might slow things down more than help.
Customization drew mixed reactions. While there is some flexibility, a few reviewers said they ran into limitations and had to work within Workiva's structure rather than tailoring everything precisely to their process.
And then there’s the learning curve. It’s not overwhelming, but users mention it. Familiarizing yourself with all the features, especially audit workflows and reporting, takes some time.
That said, many G2 users describe Workiva as a powerhouse for teams that need robust reporting, data integration, and real-time collaboration. Once everything’s in place, it seems to make complex projects much more manageable.
"Workiva is life-changing in being able to create automations, set up tasks to review parts of documents, and facilitate reviews all within the document preparation, and every functionality is easy to use. Customer support is always willing to help when we have issues. My team is within Workiva daily to do all kinds of accounting workpapers, not just limited to 10-Q and 10-K preparation."
- Workiva Review, Alex A.
"Workiva can be a bit harder to use when formatting with images or insertion of objects, such as graphs. In general, customization options can feel limited at times."
- Workiva Review, Bo G.

Let me just start by saying. Compliance isn’t fun. But based on G2 reviews, Vanta makes the process way less painful.
The first thing I noticed repeatedly mentioned in reviews was how simple and intuitive the platform felt. There's no guessing where things were or how to get started. The interface is clean, clear, and doesn’t make you feel like you're drowning in tech jargon. However, users noted that the initial setup took some time. It doesn't seem overly complex, but there are a lot of moving parts to get configured, especially if your environment has custom stuff going on.
What caught my attention in the reviews was how much automation Vanta brings to the table. It takes over a lot of the repetitive stuff, pulling evidence, checking systems, and tracking tasks. Instead of doing it all manually, users get a notification when something needs their input. It’s like having a tireless assistant dedicated to compliance.
People also seemed genuinely happy about the integrations. Everything syncs up smoothly, making a big difference when working with several tools across your company.
And it’s not just surface-level stuff. Vanta goes deep with security and compliance features. From risk assessments to real-time monitoring, it gives users a full view of how they’re doing. Reviewers noted getting alerts when something’s off, which means it can be fixed before becoming a bigger issue.
A few reviewers mentioned delays with customer support. It's not a huge issue, but it stood out during crunch time.
Pricing came up a lot, too. Vanta clearly offers value, but for smaller teams or startups, the cost might give you pause. It’s not exactly budget-friendly, especially if you’re just getting started.
A few features also felt less intuitive. Some users said they had to spend time reading through documentation or asking for help before everything clicked.
Even with those bumps, the overall feedback was solid. Once everything's set up, Vanta comes across as efficient, user-friendly, and seriously capable.
"Centralized Management, Cloud based, easy to use, effective collection and collaboration between all project members, Vanta saves a lot of time and stress by automating and improving security of our company. You don't have to use multiple tools to improve security as Vanta does it all for us. it's always worth it. Vanta does all the hard work no need to manually create sheets and move it all around the company to check it. very easy to implement. and helpful customer support, they have a huge list of software that is ready to be integrated with Vanta, at the same time Vanta offers you integration with new software."
- Vanta Review, Issam A.
"Vanta's pricing can be a little high for smaller companies and the advanced features seems to be a learning curve. While it integrates with many tools, gaps exists for niche platforms and the alert system can be sometimes overwhelm with minor or false-positive notifications."
- Vanta Review, Kavya K.
When I first started digging into Thoropass through G2 reviews, it was clear the platform packs a ton of functionality. There’s a lot to take in initially, but once users get familiar with the flow, many say it becomes one of the most valuable tools in their compliance process.
What people appreciated most was the structure. All the compliance docs are housed in one place, task assignments are simple, and progress tracking is built in. It benefits teams managing multiple frameworks like SOC 2, HIPAA, or ISO.
One of the big things I kept seeing in G2 reviews was how much users value the automation in Thoropass. It handles repetitive work, such as monitoring controls, gathering evidence, and sending reminders. Several people mentioned how much time this saves week to week, and for many, that alone made the platform feel worthwhile.
The support experience came up often, too. According to reviewers, the team is responsive and very helpful. Whether it’s about integrations or getting audit-ready, users felt they were getting guidance from a partner, not just generic responses.
Thoropass also fits nicely into existing workflows. The integrations seem to work smoothly, pulling in relevant data and reducing manual tracking.
But there are a few rough edges. Users definitely notice the learning curve. With so many features packed in, the platform can feel a bit overwhelming at the start. A few reviewers also wished the interface was more intuitive; some parts take extra clicks, and setup isn’t exactly effortless.
There were also little bits of feedback about smaller features. Nothing major, but a few tweaks or additions could make everyday use even smoother.
"I love the transparancy of the dashboard ,and the tools in the roadmap and controls area to get detailed information and put in notes and comments. Overall the platform is easy to use, fairly intuitive and the user support is very engaged with touchpoints and answering questions. The risk register is a bonus."
- Thoropass Review, Melissa P.
"Some of the uploading of information gets a bit tedious, but that's how the audit process works. If your system is a bit different, takes a lot of explaining."
- Thoropass Review, David L R.
All right, let me walk you through what stood out to me about Scrut Automation, especially for teams working with SOC 2 or ISO 27001 frameworks. I evaluated a bunch of tools in this space, but G2 feedback suggests that Scrut makes the process feel doable, even for someone who’s not knee-deep in security 24/7.
The automation, in particular, gets a lot of thumbs up. Users say Scrut connects seamlessly with tools like AWS, Google Workspace, and Jira to collect evidence automatically. No need to manually chase down screenshots or logs. It also helps surface what’s missing, sends out reminders, and ties everything together through a built-in task management system that reviewers say keeps the whole process on track.
I noticed that the reviewers were big on the dashboard design. It was often described as clear, comprehensive, and ideal for monitoring audit progress. The ability to share access with auditors was another plus. And while the policy templates weren’t exactly plug-and-play, they gave teams a functional baseline to build from, which helped speed things up.
One thing that kept coming up in reviews? The support. Multiple users talked about having a dedicated project manager who was actually hands-on, jumping on calls, answering the smallest questions without hesitation, and guiding them through roadblocks without the usual back-and-forth.
Now, Scrut isn’t perfect. User sentiment showed that the UI could use a facelift, especially compared to shinier platforms out there. And while the integrations are solid, I read enough reviews that said that they wish there were more of them or at least more depth in the ones that exist. There were also mentions of a couple of small bugs early on, though nothing critical.
All in all, if you’re looking to get audit-ready without losing your sanity, Scrut makes it feel less like a nightmare and more like a checklist you can actually finish.
"Most useful is the automated reminders on updating the evidence. Furthermore, a lot of controls regarding employees and vendors can be monitored from within Scrut. The dashboard provides a great overview of the status of the different frameworks you as a company have implemented. In our case this is ISO-27001:2022 , SOC2 Type II and GDPR. It also provides automatic scanning of your public cloud solution which covers a big part of the needed controls. We use Scrut Automation in combination with Confluence and Jira to be able to have the most workflow related evidence collected automatically. All in all it saves us lots of time which we can than use to improve our overall ISMS-score."
- Scrut Automation Review, Joost W.
"While Scrut Automation is a powerful tool, the initial setup can be a bit overwhelming, especially for teams new to compliance management software. However, their customer support team is very responsive and helpful, which made the onboarding process smoother."
- Scrut Automation Review, Karan A.
Managing audits in high-risk industries? Don’t miss my guide to the best Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) software to stay compliant and proactive.
If you’re constantly juggling safety checks, inspections, audits, and compliance documentation, then SafetyCulture is going to feel like a breath of fresh air.
What came through in G2 reviews was how quickly people got up and running with SafetyCulture. Multiple users mentioned how easy it was to create checklists and assign tasks without needing to dive deep into training. That kind of simplicity is a huge win when you're managing audits across different job sites.
According to users, real-time updates and customization options also seem to have made a noticeable impact on safety compliance. The mobile app got plenty of shoutouts, too. It works smoothly on the go and doesn’t fall apart when you’re offline, which is a lifesaver in low-coverage areas.
Another big plus? Photo and video evidence collection. You can snap photos, annotate them, and attach them right to your reports. This makes tracking issues way more visual and actionable. Plus, all of that syncs back to your dashboard, so managers can get real-time insights — no waiting around for someone to email a report. How amazing is that!
The automation features in SafetyCulture get a lot of positive attention in reviews. Setting up triggers based on checklist responses might seem like a small detail, but users say it cuts down manual follow-up time.
Still, there are a few areas where things could be better. Some reviewers noted that the AI-generated insights aren’t always accurate. It’s not unusable, but making sense of it all can take some learning.
Search functionality in the analytics section is another area for improvement. When teams are working with hundreds of reports or templates, not being able to filter and find what they need can be frustrating. There were also a few mentions of the desktop web version needing refinement. It works, but the user experience could be smoother.
"SafetyCulture changed the management and brought more order to our equipment and tool inspections. We can delegate specific tasks to other users within the platform and it's very–easy to detail the activities to be performed, set deadlines and follow up. In SafetyCulture inspections have a modular structure that makes– easy to divide audits into parts, record the status of different equipment, add detailed notes and upload photos directly from the phone."
- SafetyCulture Review, Nick P.
"Its very easy to accidentally create duplicate reports and when you have multiple people editing these reports at once it can make extra work when you are first learning to navigate it but this is easily avoided once you get used to the software. The only way to dispose of these duplicates is to archive the unwanted report and this has to be done by the creator but again not a big deal and easily avoided once familiarized with the software."
- SafetyCulture Review, Daniel D.

It really comes down to your specific goals. I recommend looking at key features like workflow automation, risk assessment tools, document management, and reporting dashboards. Also, consider ease of use, pricing, customer support, and whether it integrates with the tools you already use.
Absolutely. Many platforms are designed to scale. Some offer affordable plans for small businesses with fewer users or audits per year. You don’t need to be a massive organization to benefit from better audit processes.
Most tools are flexible enough to handle a variety of audits, including internal audits, financial audits, IT audits, compliance audits, and operational reviews. Some even offer templates or modules tailored to specific industries or regulations.
Most modern platforms offer integrations with tools like Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, ERP systems, or document storage platforms. I always recommend checking the integrations list to make sure it fits seamlessly into your current workflow.
Security is a big deal. Especially when you’re dealing with sensitive compliance data. The best tools offer features like role-based access, encryption, audit trails, and regular security updates. If you're in a regulated industry, this should be non-negotiable.
